(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Prominent Egyptian politician and former presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh will address the ninth Aljazeera forum being held here from May 4 to May 6.
A former member of the Muslim Brotherhood, Aboul Fotouh, will speak on "Tyranny and the future of democracy in the Arab world."
He was a candidate in the first presidential elections in Egypt after the 2011 revolution. He is a founding member of the "Strong Egypt" party and the secretary-general of the Arab Medical Union. He was a member of Muslim Brotherhood's Guidance Bureau from 1987 to 2009.
Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister, Mohammad Kazem Sajadpour, will also speak at the forum. Sajadpour will touch on the current regional and international issues from the Iranian perspective.
The forum will also feature a seminar on "The role of Media in Conflicts," which will host the following speakers: Jamal Khashoggi, Razan Ghazzawi, Ian Black, Middle East Editor of the "The Guardian", Yasser Abuhilala, Director of Al Jazeera Arabic and Nadia Saqqaf, former Minister of Information in Yemen.
The Public Liberties and Human Rights Department will also organise a seminar, as part of the activities of the session, entitled "New Horizons for Electronic Journalism in terms of Interaction and Education," a second seminar on "The Plight of Journalists in the Absence of Justice," and a third one on "The UN plan for the Safety and Security of Journalists: Opportunities and Challenges."
The Al Jazeera Media Training Centre will organise several events, including a workshop on "Interactive Maps in Political Geography" and another on the topic of "Media and Social Change."
The Forum will have a special session on the topic "The Palestinian cause and the future of peace," and another on the theme "The regional and international dimensions of conflict in the Middle East."
Speakers at the session on Palestinian will include Osama Hamdan, Head of Hamas Foreign Liaisons, Abdullah Abdullah, member of the Palestinian National Council, Salma Karmi-Ayyoub, Director of Al-Haq (London), Mohsen Saleh, Director of Zaytouna Centre for Studies and activist, Susana Khalil.
