Obama, Koirala discuss response to Nepal earthquake


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) President Barack Obama on Wednesday spoke with Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, of Nepal, to convey the "deep condolences" of the American people for the loss of life and massive destruction caused by the earthquake on Saturday in Nepal.

They discussed the ongoing efforts by US civilian and military personnel to assist the government of Nepal and international organizations in the disaster response efforts, including with rescue and logistics support, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said at a press briefing.

"The President pledged that the United States will do all it can to help the people of Nepal in this time of need," Earnest said. The death toll from the earthquake continued to increase, having surpassed more than 5,000. Nearly 11,000 have been injured and more than 450,000 have been displaced, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs in Nepal. (end) rm.gb
