EU dismayed over Indonesia executions


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The EU expressed dismay on Wednesday after eight people were executed in Indonesia for drug smuggling.

"As friends of Indonesia, we urge the government to take heed of the views expressed by many in the international community in recent days and declare an immediate moratorium on the use of the death penalty," Catherine Ray the spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini said in a statement.

She added that the EU stands ready to offer political support and practical assistance in combating the trade in narcotics and other criminal activities, which pose challenges to Indonesian society and beyond. (end)
