PM receives Audit Bureau report, pledges support to body


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour Tuesday pledged the government's continued support of the Audit Bureau to help it carry out its overseeing role in preserving public money from loss and abuse "with transparency, independence and neutrality".

Making these observations upon receiving the 2014 Audit Bureau Report, Ensour noted the "quantum leap" the bureau had made in its efforts to stem financial and administrative corruption using up-to-date methods and professional standards.

He referred to the bureau's criteria in drafting quality reports which assist the public sector to function with proficiency and effectiveness and reflect positively on maintaining the state's resources to achieve sustainable economic development and the welfare of society.

Ensour also told the bureau's President Mostafa Barari, who handed over the report, to publish it on the website of the prime Minister's office to "promote transparency and keep the public posted about this important report." The prime minister also directed ministries and public agencies to fully cooperate with the bureau to act on the observations contained in the report to protect public money and reflect on improving government performance and controlling spending.

Barari thanked the prime minister for his support to the bureau in promoting accountability, and added that the bureau, as a partner that oversees government work, focuses on "protective oversight".

The bureau chief had earlier handed over copies of the report to the Senate and Lower House speakers.
