Jordanian wins Transparency International's investigative journalism prize

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Jordanian journalist Hanan Kiswani has won the 2014 Transparency International's Middle East and North Africa Investigative Journalism Prize for a report that blew the lid off and documented a case of corruption in the Kingdom.

Kiswani, a reporter with the Al Ghad Daily, was credited for a report about expired food consignments destined to reach Iraqi schoolchildren.

She went in disguise, entering a UN World Food Programme warehouse in Jwaideh in East Amman, where workers were busy changing the labels of food shipments of cookies, whose best-before date had expired and which were not fit for human consumption.

"My objective in filing the report was to document and unveil the facts on the spot, backed by documents and pictures, to let people know about the role of the UN Food Programme and the governments of Jordan and Iraq in this case," Kiswani told Petra.

The prize, awarded in Berlin, aims to highlight and encourage in-depth investigative reports of corruption in the region.
