GCC health officials meet in Riyadh


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The 82th meeting of the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Health of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) kick-started here on Tuesday, with senior Kuwaiti health official Qais Al-Duwairi attending.

Addressing the two-day meeting, Director General of the Executive Office Dr. Tawfiq Khoja said the event will discuss a host of health topics, mainly inter-GCC electronic link gates, the promotion of health information systems, the revamp of the executive office, the budget for the Executive Office for 2014, budgets proposed for the years (2016-2018), Deposit Credit Fund, researches and financial position of the Fund up to date.

He added that the agenda of the regular 82th meeting of the Executive Board will also tackle the fight against non-communicable diseases and health indicators.

The conferees will also review preparations and arrangements for the 79th conference of the GCC ministers of health to be held in Geneva next month on the sidelines of the WHO General Assembly, Khoja noted.

Infection control, quality health, safety of patients, mental health, anti-smoking, occupational health, health of young people, health of mouth and teeth, primary health care, program priorities in the next phase are to be considered during the two-day event, he concluded.

Speaking to KUNA on the sidelines of the meeting, Assistant Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Health Ministry for Technical Affairs Dr. Qais Al-Duwairi stressed the significance of the GCC health meeting to the promotion of inter-GCC health coordination.

He said the discussions will focus on the development of health systems, information technology systems, patients' safety and fight against non-communicable diseases.
