UNSC extends mandates of Western Sahara, CAR missions


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UN Security Council adopted on Tuesday resolutions 2217 and 2218 extending the mandate of peacekeeping missions in Western Sahara (MINURSO) and Centeral African Republic (MINUSCA) until April 30, 2016.

The UNSC also extended the arms embargo in Cote d'Ivoire in resolution 2219 by a year reaffirming strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and unity of Cote d'Ivoire, and recalling the importance of the principles of good-neighbourliness, non-interference and regional cooperation.

Behind closed doors, the 15 member body heard consultations from Secretary General's Special Representative for the implementation of Resolution 1559 Terje Roed-Larsen, on the recent developments in Lebanon.

Resolution 1559 reaffirms its call for the strict respect of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity, and political independence of Lebanon under the sole and exclusive authority of the Government of Lebanon throughout Lebanon. (end)
