Energy experts attend lectures

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Qatar Section, which is chaired by Maersk Oil Qatar deputy manager director Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad al-Thani, has held the latest in a series of distinguished lectures in Doha.

The event was attended by local oil and gas professionals and students.

A presentation titled "Surfactant and polymer-based EOR methods for low-permeability strongly oil-wet carbonate reservoirs" was made by Martin V Bennetzen, EOR team lead, Maersk Oil Research and Technology Centre.

Bennetzen explained how surfactant and polymer core flood laboratory tests were performed on oil-wet limestone rocks from the Al Shaheen field, offshore Qatar. The main outcome of his work was an evaluation study of different enhanced oil recovery strategies that may assist in unlocking significant volumes of additional oil from certain types of reservoirs with positive commercial impact.

The SPE is the largest individual member organisation serving managers, engineers, scientists and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry. As one of many sections worldwide, SPE Qatar Section's mission is to collect, disseminate and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources and related technologies for public benefits, and provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.
