Advisory Council okays draft law on penalties

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Advisory Council has approved a draft law that tightens penalties on contractors who violate the standard regulations for digging on public roads, local Arabic dailies reported yesterday.

The penalties include withdrawing the digging permit, banning the violating contractor for a maximum of three years from undertaking other road works, and banning a contractor from the list of the approved contractors by the Public Works Authority.

The draft law also includes an article that stipulates a fine of QR500,000 or a penalty of six month jail on contractors who leave behind digging equipment or tools when the work is finished and the digging permit expires. Some members of the council argued against the six month jail term.
