Algeria expels Mauritania's diplomat in response to similar move

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Algerian authorities announced on Monday that a Mauritanian diplomat was expelled in response to a similar move taken earlier by Nouakchott against Algerian diplomat Belkacem Cherouati in the Mauritanian capital.

The Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Mauritania's diplomat was summoned Sunday "for four minutes at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs", Algeria's official news agency (APS) said, citing a source at the ministry.

The diplomat was notified that he was persona non grata, within the framework of the reciprocity principle, the APS added.

Algeria's decision comes in response to the unjustified decision of Mauritania, which expelled Wednesday the first secretary of Algeria's Cherouati in Mauritania.
