Egypt- Individual seats increase to 448 in latest electoral districts law amendment

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The committee in charge of amending the elections law made further amendments to the electoral districts law, raising the seats for individual seats to 448.

Refaat Al-Qomsan, the committee's spokesman, announced Monday the latest amendment after reviewing latest voters database from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The committee announced an end to the work on the law, as it will be sent to the State Council's fatwa and legislation department on Wednesday for revision, according to state media.

The committee also announced that there will be 203 constituencies for individual seats in the upcoming elections.

The elections were scheduled to take place in March, but the constitutionality of the electoral district law was questioned resulting in the postponement of the elections until the law's amendment.

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has announced Parliamentary elections will be held in the coming period but not during Ramadan, which is to start in mid-June.

The comments were made during the celebration of Labour Day at the Police Academy on Monday morning.

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb has previously announced parliamentary elections are poised to commence before mid-June.

Egypt's cabinet approved on 15 April an amended draft of the electoral districts law, in which the committee increased individual seats to 442, whilst allocating a total of 120 elected seats to the closed-list systems.
