New lawsuit against Mubarak to investigate political crimes

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The State Council's Administrative Court referred Tuesday a lawsuit, demanding the investigation of political crimes by former president Hosni Mubarak, to commissioners to issue a legal report on the case.

The lawsuit, filed by lawyer Samir Sabry, demanded compelling current President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to form a fact-finding committee to compile a report on corruption in Mubarak's 30-year rule.

In the lawsuit, Sabry said Mubarak ordered the sale of public sector and helped facilitate elections forgery, spread poverty and create a "marriage of money and power".

After his ouster in February 2011, Mubarak was taken into custody in April 2011 on several charges. On 29 November 2014, the Cairo Criminal Court dropped the highest profile of cases against Mubarak, namely the killing of protesters, and acquitted him of graft charges.

Currently, the ousted autocrat stands retrial, along with his sons Gamal and Alaa, for embezzling almost EGP 126m from state funds in the Presidential Palaces case.
