Syrian rebels launch joint operation in Aleppo

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Armed rebels in Syria claim to have united to launch a joint operation against Damascus regime forces in the center of Aleppo.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the al-Fatih army, the Damascus Front, the Army of Islam and Ahrar Sham Islamic Movement, the groups decided "to join forces for the liberation of Aleppo."

Military operations in Aleppo and the surrounding countryside come two days after regime warplanes attacked a residential area near Jisr al-Shughur city, killing at least 30 people, according to the Syrian Revolution General Commission.

In the statement, opposition groups claim they have seized the northwestern city of Idlib and most of the countryside around Jisr al-Shughur city.

The statement also mentioned the participation of other opposition groups. The Free Syrian Army and other armed rebels now reportedly control 60 percent of the city of Aleppo.

On Sunday, Aleppo experienced violent clashes; no information on casualties and property damage has emerged.
