British BT sales hurt despite 4G growth

(MENAFN) BT, British telecommunications services group, said its sales were hurt on WhatsApp dominance and changing consumer habits, leading the group to face a growth challenge, The Telegraph reported.

Operating profit revenues for the first-quarter period, the main gauge of spending on the EE network, Europe's largest 4G provider, dropped 1.1 percent from last year, reaching USD1.59 billion.

The decline came in spite of the operator employing 1.7 million more customers to more expensive 4G contracts, to bring the total to 9.3 million, or almost a third of its overall customer base.

The operator also reported a 4.6 percent year-on-year rise in the amount customers spend on bundled data, call and texts, but it was not enough to overcome the headwinds.
