(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY April 9 (Agencies): The Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation (KAPF) has always fulfilled the vision of the country's wise leadership to support social initiatives and vital projects Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al- Sanea has said. The KAPF has been concentrating on social partnership encouraging civil society organizations to provide the various needs of the society the minister on Thursday told a press conference held to announce the launch of a waqf housing project.
The project is based on a KAPF initiative to help Kuwaiti low -income families that cannot afford housing rent providing them with dignified housing and living conditions to enhance family stability and social interdependence he added. Priority will be given to 'most needy' families he said noting that the project also aims to foster partnership between KAPF and state institutions on one hand and charity organizations on the other.
The KAPF is working on broadening its social services developing fresh waqf ideas to consolidate the concept of social partnership with other institutions Secretary-General Dr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Jarallah. He added that beneficiaries will be identified in line with criteria considering social and economic conditions.
Meanwhile the committee in charge of studying the rent allowance issue has rejected the parliamentary proposal to increase the monthly allowance for those included in the housing welfare to KD 250 from KD 150 sources from Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) say says Al-Seyassah. They revealed that the committee was concerned that such a move will be exploited by the real-estate and commercial offices to increase the rents like the way they did when the allowance was increased from KD 100 to KD 150.
The sources explained that the committee has submitted a number of suggestions to the National Assembly with the main aim of protecting the rights of the citizens from the greediness of those who exploit any financial increment for their own benefit. One of those suggestions was to issue a law to limit the rental value of apartments based on space location and number of rooms. 'If this law is approved PAHW will have a different perspective about increasing the rent allowance based on studies and recommendations provided by experts' they added. In another development the National Assembly agreed on Wednesday to selling State-owned companies that own more than 50 percent of their capitals.
