Energy Minister, Spanish Trade Minister discuss energy cooperation

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ibrahim Saif, and Spanish Secretary of State for Trade, Jaime Garcia-Legazat, on Sunday, discussed bilateral cooperation, especially in energy and renewable energy fields.

During the meeting, which was attended by Spain's ambassador to Jordan, Santiago Ancorina, and Spanish economic and commercial attaché Francisco Alfonso, Saif reviewed the economic challenges that Jordan faces in energy, financial, economic and social sectors, as a result of the Kingdom's increasing energy bill.

He said that the government, represented by the Ministry of Energy, is working on implementing the energy sector strategy, which is based on promoting the exploitation of domestic energy sources, including local renewable energy sources as a way to secure the energy supply sector.

Saif briefed the Spanish minister on projects implemented by Spanish companies in the Kingdom, including the solar energy project in Azraq, eastern Jordan, implemented through a debt swap grant from the Spanish government.

Garcia-Legazat expressed his country's readiness to provide more support to Jordan through renewable energy projects and encourage Spanish companies to invest in the Kingdom, as well as enhance Jordan's capacity, technology transfer in renewable energy fields and rational energy use, through twinning programs between the two countries.
