PM Abadi urges int'l community to help Iraq in war against ISIL


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi Sunday underlined importance of the international support to Iraq in its war against ISIL and other terrorist groups.

Al-Abadi, during a meeting with visiting British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, said the Iraqi people were united behind the government forces, who needed further assistance from the international community, a statement by his office said.

They discussed political and security conditions in Iraq, and the areas liberated from the grip of the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL), said the statement.

Al-Abadi said the international community should exert efforts to support Iraq in its war against terrorist groups.

Iraqi "forces in the battle field have achieved many victories and liberated many areas. We will continue our just battle until the liberation of every inche of Iraq," he said.

Al-Abadi said his government was working on settlement of the internally displaced back to their homes as well as rebuilding the liberated areas.

Hammond said Britain would support Iraq in the political, security and economic domains in addition to helping in the reconstruction of liberated areas.

Hammond met earlier today with President Fuad Masum and Parliament Speaker Saleem Al-Jabouri and discussed international fight against ISIL, and affirmed that security and national reconciliation key for united Iraq.
