(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Information about environment-friendly green building products and services in Qatar and in the region could now be found in an online platform.
'Qatar Green Directory' was launched yesterday by the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF) provides a comprehensive database with information and analysis about existing and new green building products and services provided in Qatar and the region.
The first of its kind directory launched in Qatar is available online and can be accessed at http://qatargreendirectory.com/.
"The Qatar Green Directory is aimed at filling the existing gap between supply and demand in Qatar's green buildings market. The directory will greatly help local manufacturers and distributors of green building materials make their products and services easily available and accessible to the industry," said Meshal Al Shamari, QGBC Director.
He also said that QGBC has received more than 1,000 local and regional companies to be included in the directory.
"This indicates the overwhelming interest and demand available in the market. We look forward to welcoming on board manufacturers and suppliers operating in Qatar and the region to join QGBC's online comprehensive platform," said Al Shamari.
The Green Directory was launched at the official opening of the inaugural Qatar Green Building Conference, at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
The two-day conference an exhibition, which is part of the event, is open to the public and free to attend.
Focusing entirely on green buildings, the Qatar Green Building Conference aims to review and address some of the pressing sustainability challenges facing Qatar and the region. More than 500 leading local and international green buildings experts, researchers, academics, and sustainability activists are attending the two-day event.
"Qatar is the fifth country in the world and second in the region to get LEED € 'Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design' certification. We have more than 2000 green buildings including within the Qatar Foundation and the upcoming Lusail project," said Issa Al Mohannadi, Chairperson of QGBC and Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).
"We believe that a combination of research and innovation, education and awareness, and building cohesive networks of stakeholders, is the key towards achieving environmental sustainability on a national and a regional level. The Qatar Green Building Conference has indeed created a platform for the green building industry to make this possible collectively,' he added.
Participants at the Qatar Green Building Conference will discuss around four areas, including Passivhaus in Middle East and North Africa Region; Retrofitting Doha's existing building stock; Measuring Carbon Footprint and Future Sustainable Cities.
"Green buildings are a hallmark of economically sound business decisions, thoughtful environmental decisions and smart human impact decisions. As our world shrinks, because of ever more precious natural resources, technology and trade, it's becoming very clear that while the decisions to build green are local - one building, one home, one school, one hospital - the aggregate impact is global," said Rick Fedrizi, CEO and Founding Chair of the US Green Building Council, in his keynote speech.
