(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY April 26: A female citizen in her 20s filed a lawsuit demanding a compensation of KD 40000 from male compatriot who proposed to marry her but decided to leave her before the wedding ceremony.
Attorney Suleiman Al-Duwaisan who represented the woman in court explained that the defendant is a young Kuwaiti working in a local bank went on to marry his client after an engagement that lasted for six months. He said the marriage was properly consummated indicating that the husband (defendant) went on to apply for the housing loan and also received the KD 6000 marriage grant but as they were preparing for the wedding ceremony the husband decided to end the marriage based on several reasons among them that the wife was a Kuwaiti.
Al-Duwaisan pointed out that the defendant had promised his client to pay her back every cent she used in preparation for the wedding in which the client spent from her savings in order to ensure that the family and friends of her husband get a classy reception. He pointed out the amount of compensation is for the emotional and material damages suffered by his client in addition to her allowance on the first day of their marriage and the expenses incurred by the wife in preparation for the wedding reception. According to the lawyer the compensation should be seen as a deterrent to those who intend to mess with women and use the marital entity to satisfy their evil desires.
'Yawm' hearing delayed: The Administrative Court presided over by Judge Hisham Al-Bassam postponed until May 17 the deliberations on a lawsuit filed by the Ministry of Information demanding cancellation of the license of Al-Yawm Channel and Alam Al-Yawm newspaper. The ministry had earlier ordered closure of the channel and cancellation of its license for violating articles 4 and 10 of the Audio-Visual Media Law. A decision was taken later not to renew the license upon expiration
