Israeli army forces on Saturday detained a Palestinian youth near the border with the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Israeli border guards detained an 18-year-old Palestinian as he approached the border fence with the intention of crossing into Israel, eyewitnesses told The Anadolu Agency.

The Israeli army has yet to comment on the report.

From time to time, Israel announces the arrest of Palestinians caught attempting to cross the border in hopes of finding work in the self-proclaimed Jewish state.

Since the beginning of this year, the Israeli army has detained more than 36 Palestinians near the Gaza border, according to Palestinian NGOs.

Gaza's Labor Union said recently that around 30,000 workers had lost their jobs due to last year's devastating Israeli military onslaught against the coastal enclave.

Along with killing almost 2,160 Palestinians € mostly civilians € and injuring more than 11,000, the Israeli offensive also destroyed a large number of Gaza's factories and industrial facilities.

The Gaza Strip continues to groan under an eight-year Israeli blockade, which has badly affected the livelihoods of the strip's roughly 1.9 million inhabitants.
