Nepal earthquake claims over 1,800 lives, toll expected to rise


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The earthquake which hit Nepal last night has so far claimed 1,805 lives and injured 4,718 people.

The Nepalese government has said that a large number of people are still trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings in the aftermath of the earthquake, which measured 7.9 on the open-ended Richter Scale.

The government has also declared a state of emergency in affected areas and said that it expects the victim toll to rise, appealing to the international community to send aid to help with the effects of the disaster.

The devastating earthquake is the worst the country has seen in 80 years.
