Egyptian Pre. imposes state of emergency in N. Sinai

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi issued a decree on Saturday to impose for three months a state of emergency in the northeastern governorate of North Sinai as of tomorrow.

Under the decree a curfew will be in place from 7:00 p.m. Until 6:00 a.m. in the specified areas except for Arish city where it will last between midnight until 6:00 a.m., the state-run MENA news agency reported.

The President also issued a decree delegating some of his powers to Prime Minister Eng. Ibrahim Mahlab under Act No. 162/1958 on the regulations of the state of emergency, according to the report.

The arrangements cover the areas lying between the country's eastern borderlines from Tal Rafah in the north to Al-Oujah town in the south, and from the Mediterranean northern area of Mara, west Arish, to Jabal Al-Jalal in the south.

The move aims to protect the safety of life and the public and private property against the threats of terrorism, the report added.

Egypt imposed a state of emergency in some regions in northern Sinai last October due to deteriorating security conditions.

A Presidential Resolution stated the state of emergency would be in force east of Tal Rafah, the stretch of land reaching the international border line till Al-Oujah, in addition to western Al-Arish along with the areas stretching to Al-Halal mountain. In the north, the special precautions are also executed in western Al-Arish and coastal Red Sea areas.
