Qatar lauded for its 'business resilience'

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar is ranked seventh globally for business resilience, the highest among the Middle East countries, according to the 2015 FM Global Resilience Index report. The index provides an annual ranking of 130 countries and territories around the world based on their business resilience to supply chain disruption. This year's index comprises a mix of change and stability.

While Qatar has risen eight places, Norway has retained its top position in the index. Other countries in the top 10 are Switzerland, the Netherlands, Ireland, Luxembourg, Germany, Canada, Finland and the US (region 3). The report states that "Qatar benefits from its macroeconomic stability, efficient goods and labour markets and high degree of security. The country owes its rise of eight places to a considerable improvement in commitment to fire risk management in the region".

Commenting on the index, HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce, Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani, stressed the importance of the report's outcome, saying Qatar has taken significant steps in recent years that have contributed to the high ranking. More efforts need to be taken to maintain this global position and ensure positive evaluation for the next year, it was observed.

Qatar's top ranking regionally indicates the wisdom of HH the Emir and the efforts undertaken by the government, besides the support of the Qatari people in the country's bid for development and progress, he added.

He pointed out that the distinguished political and economic situation in Qatar and its good geographical location have helped achieve the high ranking. Besides, Qatar's transparent policies, legislations and practices have reflected positively on its business atmosphere and the country also enjoys good economic infrastructure. "The 2015 FM Global Resilience Index offers powerful insights to help business executives target their investments towards more reliable returns and to protect their customers from unforeseen disruption," the report adds.
