QBA hosts US Undersecretary


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) hosted a luncheon on Wednesday in honour of the visiting US Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade, Stefan Selig, and accompanying business delegation, at the Majlis of QBA's Second Deputy Chairman Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Thani Al Thani.

Selig said the aim of this visit is to discuss ways of enhancing economic cooperation, and encouraging businessmen to build strong partnerships, and overcome any obstacles that prevent increasing the trade volume. Selig said the development plan adopted by Qatar will create huge investment opportunities for the US companies.

The Qatari side the Qatari-American relations are strong, and have witnessed a great improvement in recent years. Dr Sheikh Khalid said the continuous follow up from the US government through these almost yearly visits to the Qatari market and the businessmen association, support the Qatari businessmen and their endeavours to enter the US market. It also creates a common platform for them and their US counterparts for discussing joint ventures and opportunities, he added.

The trade relations between Qatar and the US have seen a noticeable increase in recent years, as it increased by 86 percent last year, and the total trade volume has reached QR13.7bn ($3.75bn) in 2013. Moreover, Qatar is the fourth largest destination for US exports in the Mena, and the US is the largest foreign investor and exporter to Qatar, as the value of Qatar's imports of US goods exceeded $5bn in 2014, and the most prominent American products, which increased its sales to Qatar are the American aircraft, 'Boeing', cars and trucks. There are over 120 US companies operating in Qatar.
