Indonesia Thailand Establish Working Group To Fight Illegal Fishing


(MENAFNEditorial) As part of the efforts to fight the illegal fishing the Indonesian and Thailand governments are ready to establish a working group in order to discuss the solutions for the maritime crime.

In a bilateral meeting with Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha at the Asian African Conference 2015 President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also discussed the possibility on fisheries cooperation.  

“We expect the Thailand government could enhance the protection and legal access for Indonesian ship crews in Thailand” told President Jokowi as cited from a press release of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Thursday (4/23/2015).

The two leaders also agree to arrange a meeting to review the discussion on maritime border negotiation in end 2015 referring to the draft of agreement signed by the Foreign Affairs Ministers from both countries in Bangkok.

Based on the Foreign Affairs Ministry data the bilateral trade between Indonesia and Thailand has increased by 5.63% in average per year for the last five years.

The two countries agree to enhance trade cooperation through transfer of technology and experiences in developing agricultural products. Read more..
