(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The 8th conference of Kuwaiti diplomatic missions abroad concluded three days of sessions on Thursday evening by adopting a final statement.
The statement highlights the need to take to a new height Kuwait's already close relations with the various countries of the world.
It calls for more efforts to protect the country's national interests and stability and convey the bright portrait of its democracy to the world.
The diplomats confirmed adherence to the country's principles and the fundamentals of the international legitimacy relating to the promotion of peace and coexistence among different people They attach great importance to the humanitarian action and the efforts to protect human rights and promote sustainable development particularly in the developing and least-developed countries, according to the statement.
The conferees took pride in the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as Humanitarian Leader, it said.
They approved as a main point of reference His Highness the Amir's speech made on his behalf by His highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
They also adopted the statements of Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah - the chair of the conference, and Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanim.
The conferees discussed, inter alia, the GCC march towards integration, the Arab regional system, the Operation Decisive Storm against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, the conflict in Syria and the ensuing humanitarian disaster, and the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria, hosted by Kuwait late last month.
They also discussed the situations in Iraq, Libya and Lebanon; the security threats posed by terrorist groups; the Iranian nuclear dossier in the wake of the framework between Iran and the P5+1 group; the Middle East peace process; and the negative economic impacts of the declining oil prices.
The conference coincided with unprecedented turmoil in the Middle East and accelerated transformations in the region and beyond, according to the statement.
The conferees took note that since their seventh meeting in 2013, Kuwait has opened six diplomatic missions abroad, thus taking the total number to 104.
Eight foreign diplomatic missions and representation offices of international and regional organizations have been accredited in Kuwait with the number of diplomatic missions rising to 132, the statement pointed out.
The conferees welcomed the launching of the audiovisual communication system and the electronic hookup between the Foreign Ministry and the missions abroad.
They welcomed the progress made in the takes with the European Union members on granting visa waivers for Kuwaiti nationals willing to visit the Schengen Area and the United Kingdom. (pickup previous) rg.gb
