Plan to increase medical fees for expats uncertain


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY April 23: Head of Parliament's Legal and Legislative Committee MP Mubarak Al- Hurais revealed that the parliament has not received any proposal so far regarding the rumored plan of Ministry of Health to increase the medical fees for expatriates in public hospitals and clinics reports Al- Khaleej weekly. He stressed the importance of focusing on increasing the cooperation between the executive and legislative powers in order to issue more laws that will serve the nation.

Al-Hurais affirmed that the current parliament has realized more achievements than any previous parliaments in the history of Kuwait. Regarding whether he is expecting to see arguments and disagreements between the MPs and the ministers during the upcoming parliamentary sessions of Tuesday and Wednesday he said 'Anything can be expected during a parliamentary session. Such disagreements and arguments between the parliament and the government have occurred during previous parliamentary sessions'. Al-Hurais said he hopes the officials will continue to hold mutual respect for one another adding that he also hopes such issues will not turn into personal disagreements.

Meanwhile Undersecretary of Ministry of Health Dr Khalid Al-Sahlawi has declared the keenness of the ministry to improve the conditions of expatriate doctors in the country and provide them with better benefits in order to prevent them from moving to other countries reports Al-Rai daily. On the sidelines of the launch of the 16th meeting of the Arab Committee for Health Legislation he revealed that the ministry has been coordinating with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) in this regard.

He affirmed that he sent a letter to the Undersecretary of CSC Mohammad Al-Roumi two months ago regarding increasing the rent allowances of the expatriate doctors especially since these allowances were not increased for a long time. Al-Sahlawi indicated that he also communicated with the Undersecretary of Ministry of Education to study the issue of providing admissions to children of expatriate doctors in governmental schools as a way of reducing expenses for them.

He revealed that employees in leading positions in the ministry will be reshuffled during the coming period following an official announcement. He also revealed that seven bills of the ministry are currently on the Cabinet's table including the Patient Safety Act and an amendment to the Smoking Law.
