Abu Dhabi hotels benefit from passenger growth


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) In the first quarter a total of 5.521110 million passengers used Abu Dhabi International Airport compared with 4.560169 million passengers in the same period last year.

Abu Dhabi - Abu Dhabi Airports has reported a 21.1 per cent increase in passenger traffic during the first quarter of 2015 which is positively impacting hotel business in the capital.

In the first quarter a total of 5.521110 million passengers used Abu Dhabi International Airport compared with 4.560169 million passengers in the same period last year.

In March Abu Dhabi Airports repeated a similar growth of 21.1 per cent year-on-year to 1.917939 million passengers.

Sharing his comments on how airport passenger traffic is affecting hospitality business Nehme Darwiche CEO of Abu Dhabi-based Jannah Hotels and Resorts said this has “positively affected his group hotels occupancy levels in the period”.

“There is a high dependency between Abu Dhabi airport and hospitality business that is largely supply-side driven” he said.

Darwiche said the effective marketing strategy of Abu Dhabi Airports has given “a strong forward push” to the hotels in Abu Dhabi. As a result he said new hotel properties are coming up in order to cope with the increase in the demand.

The top five routes from Abu Dhabi International Airport during March were Bangkok Manila London Heathrow Doha and Jeddah.

Engineer Ahmad Al Haddabi chief operations officer at Abu Dhabi Airports said: “With more than five million passengers passing through Abu Dhabi International Airport during the first quarter the statistics continue to show that Abu Dhabi is rapidly becoming a major global transportation hub.”
