(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's population was recorded as 4.15mn till the end of March, showing a 0.4 per cent growth over last year.
The number of Omanis stood at 2,325,982 while the rest were expatriates, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Figures revealed that a majority of the sultanate's population resides in Muscat governorate whose population increased 0.6 per cent to reach 1,274,159 people.
Muscat is also the only governorate where the number of expats is more than Omanis.
The number of expatriates residing in the governorate reached 790,510 compared to 483,649 Omanis.
North Batinah was the governorate with the second highest population € 676,459 - logging a growth rate of 0.5 per cent. Of these 459,334 were Omanis and 217,125 expatriates.
South Batinah and South Sharqiyah also recorded a growth rate of 0.5 per cent. The population of South Batinah reached 373,060 including 278,569 Omanis, while that of South Sharqiyah reached 274,090 of whom 186,907 were Omanis.
With a 0.2 per cent growth rate, Dhofar's population was recorded at 385,031 € 194,970 Omanis and 190,061 expats. Musandam, with the same growth rate as Dhofar had a population of 40,769 of whom 26,021 were citizens and 14,748 were expatriates.
Buraimi's population stood at 102,133 divided evenly among Omanis and expatriates, with a growth rate of 0.4 per cent.
Dakhliyah's population also registered a growth rate of 0.4 per cent to reach 414,160 (319,753 Omanis and 94,407 expats).
The population of North Sharqiyah reached 248,335 with a growth rate of 0.4 per cent. The number of Omanis stood at 161,754 compared to 86,581 expatriates. Dhahirah's population (0.4 per cent growth) stood at 190,789 with a growth rate of 0.4 per cent. Omanis stood at 141,268 and 49,521 were expats.
Al Wusta recorded the lowest growth rate at 0.1 per cent. The population stood at 41,409 people including 22,630 Omanis and 18,779 expatriates.
Data also showed that there is a category of expatriates whose places of residence are not mentioned. Their number stands at 134,731.
