US 'concerned' Iran fleet carrying arms to Yemen

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) United States Defense Secretary, Ashton Carter, said his government is "certainly concerned" a fleet of Iranian ships reportedly headed toward Yemen is carrying weapons for Houthi rebels.

Asked whether he thought weapons were on board the Iranian ships, Carter said: "We're certainly concerned about that." Carter would not say whether U.S. military officials are prepared to intercept and board the Iranian cargo vessels, but said the presence of the U.S. ships gives the U.S. "options." President Barack Obama on Tuesday said the United States had warned Iran not to send weapons to Yemen that could be used to threaten shipping traffic in the Gulf.
