(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The European Union (EU) on Wednesday said it has "followed with interest" the announcement by Saudi Arabia on an end to the Kingom-led "Operation Decisive Storm" in Yemen.
"We are looking forward to details precising the modalities of the newly announced 'Operation Renewal of Hope' operation," an EU spokesperson for foreign affairs told KUNA.
"We hope that the latest announcement made by Saudi Arabia to end its military operation in Yemen opens a new chapter towards negotiations leading to an inclusive solution," said the spokesperson speaking on condition of anonymity.
"We welcome the announcement by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that more emphasis will be put on humanitarian assistance to tackle the crisis which is reaching alarming proportions, and will continue to work with all parties to ensure adequate unhindered access to ordinary Yemenis in need," said the spokesperson.
"The formation of a Government of National Unity is the only way to finalize the transition process and avoid economic and financial collapse and the deepening of the humanitarian crisis. The EU also calls on all regional actors to engage constructively with Yemeni parties in order to enable a de-escalation of the crisis and avoid further regional instability," added the spokesperson.
