UN official, Lebanese min. discuss suffering of displaced women


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) United Nations Secretary General's Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict Zainab Bangura said Wednesday that she is visiting Lebanon to get acquainted with women suffering in areas of conflicts.

Bangura made the remarks after a meeting with Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs Rashid Derbas, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA).

Bangura, accompanied by a UN delegation, is on tour of the region in order to assess the conditions of women displaced by the conflict in Syria and who to tackle the existing challenge.

Derbas highlighted the interest of the Lebanese government and the Ministry of Social Affairs in the affairs related to women and children.

"The Ministry is collaborating with the civil society to implement programs that aim to meet the demands of those social categories," said Derbas.
