Gulf leaders united in security outlook

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, met US President Barack Obama at the White House for talks on the stability of the region, said a UAE daily.

"The meeting on Monday was a precursor to a wider meeting in May with leaders from across the Gulf, which will be key in emphasising the threats states face here in the region," said the Gulf News in an editorial on Wednesday.

Those threats, it says, are mostly threefold: The insidious nature and brutality of Daesh in Syria and Iraq as it attempts to carve out a caliphate on the blood and bones of those it enslaves with a twisted ideology; the illegal actions of Iran-backed Al Houthi rebels who have brought chaos to Yemen by trying to overthrow the legitimate government and administration of President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi; and Iran's apparent rapprochement with the West by securing a framework deal over the future of its nuclear programme and the lifting of international economic sanctions against Tehran.

"Let's be clear," the editorial continues, "Whatever comes out of these talks and discussions, the collective security of the Gulf is paramount, and there can be no quarter asked and no quarter given when it comes to ensuring the peace, security and prosperity of this region. And collectively, Arab nations, as shown by their resolve and coordinated military intervention to support Hadi's government in Yemen, will not be deterred from the job at hand € ending Al Houthis' subversive and terrorist activities."

The paper concludes, "When it comes to stability of this region, Gulf leaders are united in their security outlook and actions. Disunity and insecurity is being deliberately spread from the other side of the Strait of Hormuz."
