UN asks EU to take in 130,000 Syrian refugees


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The UN High Commissioner for Refugees has asked Europe to take in 130,000 refugees from Syria, an EU spokesperson said here Tuesday.

The EU has offered 36,000 places for refugees from Syria so far which does not meet the needs completely but it is the biggest number of places ever offered by the EU, spokesperson for the European Commission Natasha Beartaud told a news conference.

Meanwhile, she noted that an EU extraordinary summit on Thursday in Brussels will discuss the issue of migration following the drowning of over 700 African migrants off Libya on Sunday.
