TRA supports 10th Khalifa University Mobile Application Contest 2015


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector, TRA, has announced its support for the Mobile Application Contest, MAC 2015, the annual competition organised by the Khalifa University of Science Technology and Research, for the sixth time in a row.

The contest, which took place at Khalifa University on April 19th, witnessed some of the UAE's brightest students competing against one another and showcased their skills while building original, innovative and culturally focused mobile applications.

"The TRA is pleased to be a source of encouragement to the nation's youth, as we support this event which will allow them to engage with the mobile application development field. Although mobile applications are a major aspect of the ICT sector, this contest is an opportunity to stimulate the student's abilities to think critically and solve problems creatively with an innovative mindset. Having sponsored events in previous years, we look forward to witnessing the talented contestants in the 2015 edition," said Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, TRA Director-General.

"It is notable to mention that the UAE is among the world's highest in smartphone penetration, and as such we commend the effort by Khalifa University's Mobile Application Contest that cultivates the local knowledge base and prepares the nation's future with the capabilities and skills to design applications that fuel this evident technological demand," he added.

Open to all colleges and universities in the UAE, as well as select colleges in the region, the annual Mobile Application Contest provides an opportunity for students majoring in Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Telecommunications to showcase their skills in developing mobile applications.

The event also offered participants the opportunity to meet and interact with students in their field, from other national and regional institutions. In addition, a series of three free training sessions on contemporary mobile application development languages will be made available to more than 60 students from local universities, as well as courses in IOS, Android and Windows Phone.
