6 US men charged with supporting Daesh

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Six men in Minnesota and California have been charged with attempting to provide material support to Daesh, the Justice Department said Monday.

Four of the men - Zacharia Yusuf Abdurahman, 19, Adnan Farah, 19, Hanad Mustafe Musse, 19, and Guled Ali Omar, 20 € were arrested Sunday in Minneapolis, the department said in a statement. Two others - Abdirahman Yasin Daud, 21, and Mohamed Abdihamid Farah, 21, - were also arrested Sunday in California, on their way to Minneapolis from San Diego.

All six have been charged with conspiracy and attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

Assistant Attorney General for National Security John P. Carlin said in a statement that the men "allegedly planned to travel to Syria as part of their conspiracy to provide material support" to Daesh.

According to the criminal complaint, the arrests follow a more than 10-month FBI investigation into a group of individuals, largely consisting of young men, who have allegedly been plotting to travel to Syria to fight for Daesh. At least one person, Abdi Nur, successfully traveled to Syria from where he now recruits individuals from Minnesota, the complaint said.

The Minneapolis area is home to a large number of Somali immigrants.

Law enforcement officials are expected to provide additional details on the charges during a press conference later Monday.
