White House: Iran spy charge on US reporter 'absurd'

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The White House said Monday it had not received official confirmation that a Washington Post journalist jailed in Iran would be tried on spy charges, and that such charges would be "absurd".

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said it was not aware of any official announcement from Iran's judicial authorities on the case of Jason Rezaian, but if reports were correct the charges should be "immediately dismissed."
