Don Bosco Kuwait Independent Hockey see off rivals

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY April 13: In the second round matches of the Khalid Arshad Memorial Hockey tournament which were played Friday hosts KOC Greens pipped International Red by 3-2 margin; in the second game Don Bosco eased past the KOC Blues 3-1 and in the last game it was cake walk for Kuwait Independent Hockey scoring 6 goals against the hapless Kuwait Hockey Kings. With the confidence high of both sides the first game of the day was promising and left no one disappointed.

The Reds started off with an unexceptional fashion a solo effort by Steven who outran the Greens defence and scored - thanks to a fumble by the goalkeeper. Greens made sure that no further damage was done and kept constant pressure which soon bore fruit. Saqib Ajmal crossed the ball from the 25 yard area to Sohail Alam for a simple tap in. Just before the half time the tournament's top scorer Zihad added to his tally. He has now scored five in two games. Soon after the break Saqib Ajmal convented the penalty corner to make it 3-1.

But the highlight of the game came from the veteran Lawerance. He scored an exceptional goal chipping over the goal keeper to make the dying moments of the game nail biting. However Greens held on their nerves to maintain the lead. In the second game Don Bosco were all out to prove a point after a disappointing draw in the last game. Don Bosco lads piled up pressure throughout the game with Leo Sherwin and Eustace making forays deep in the rival defence.

The scores for Don Bosco were Leo a brace and Mario. Abbas scored the only goal for the Blues. The highlight of the game was the 13- year-old Hassnain from the Pakistan School of Kuwait. The youngster played a great game making some key interceptions. He is truly a talent from Kuwait to look forward to. The contest between Kuwait Independent Hockey and Kuwait Hockey Kings was one-sided affair. With Naveed and Tanveer back in the ranks Kings did have high hopes.

However KIH tormented the Kings with their swift passes with Faisal Joshua and Bobby threatening the rivals throughout the game. KIH smashed 6 goals past the helpless Kings. Braces from Benny Faisal and Harjinder proved that the men in gold are a team to look forward to in this tournament. Tanveer Azam scored the only goal for the Kings.
