Saudi- KACST Science Technology week to begin Sunday

(MENAFN- Arab News) Extensive arrangements are being made by the King Abdul Aziz City For Science and Technology (KACST) for the Science and Technology week that begins in Riyadh Sunday.
The event aimed at communicating with society and promoting interest in science will be opened by Prince Turki bin Saud bin Mohammad KACST president at its headquarters.
More than 30 pavilions will display various services and products.
According to an official from the organizing committee of the exhibition the objective is to link the concepts of science and technology with the community and to highlight scientific issues and their influence on human life.
The show is open to all segments of society particularly the youth and school college and university students who constitute 60 percent of society members.
The first week of the event will be for students from schools colleges and universities while the second week will be dedicated to the members of the public in the evenings. The students will be allowed to visit the show in the mornings.
In February Jazan Gov. Prince Mohammed bin Nasser opened a similar show in the presence of Prince Turki in Jazan.
Prince Turki said that KACST is collaborating with the University of Jazan to educate people on the importance of scientific and technological developments. 'This is part of our efforts to build a knowledge-based society' he said.
The governor was also briefed on the Kingdom's solar power project which has been accredited with International Standardization Organization (ISO) certification. The Kingdom's solar projects are benefiting from nanotechnology provided by the KACST.
The KACST has set up a unit to produce 3-megawatt flat solar panels at the solar village in Al-Aiyyna where it began production in 2011 with 12000 panels per year. It aims to set up a world-class plant to produce solar panels with a capacity of 120 megawatt in Al-Aiyyna over an area of 75000 square meters.
