UEFA and CAS top officials provide key inputs to Omani administrators


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Gianni Infantino the general secretary of the UEFA delivered a keynote address at the 2015 Oman Sports Conference (OSC) which was hosted by the Ministry of Sports Affairs at Crowne Plaza Hotel on Sunday.

Apart from the top official of European football's governing body the event also featured Matthieu Reeb secretary general of the Switzerland-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The third annual edition of the conference which was attended by a 400-strong audience featured three sessions with the talks from Infantino and Reeb standing out.

Ahmed al Jhdhamy the head of the marketing department of the sports ministry told Muscat Daily 'The conference was a big success. It was great to host some top international names from the world of sports administration. Both Infantino and Reeb were impressive with their presentations.'

The opening session saw the experts give talks on the governance of sports organisations and current trends in sports administration. Infantino delivered an address in which he drew parallels with football administration in Europe and gave valuable inputs and tips for sports administrators in Oman.

The second phase involved a discussion on matters of dispute resolution involving the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) and the sports associations. Reeb delivered a talk in this session on his experiences at the CAS. He also shed light on recent trends of tackling legal aspects of sports-related disputes and controversies. The day's concluding session discussed ways of educating young Omanis on the need for handling social media platforms more responsibly.

Anwar al Rawas director of the media section of Sultan Qaboos University and Raya al Mandhari vice-chairman of Oman's Youth National Committee were the speakers in the third session which dealt with social networking behavioural patterns of Omani youngsters.

The conference was attended by H E Sheikh Saad al Saadi the Minister of Sports Affairs other ministers officials of the Oman Olympic Committee and heads of various sports associations.
