Egypt's Sisi meets CIA director in Cairo

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday discussed bilateral ties with the United States and the fight against terrorism during a meeting in Cairo with Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan, the Egyptian presidency has said.

It added in a statement that US ambassador in Cairo Stephen Beecroft attended the meeting.

The meeting, the presidency said, focused on means of bolstering bilateral relations and developments on the regional and international scenes.

It added that al-Sisi agreed with the CIA Director to maintain coordination on all issues of mutual concern, especially when it came to hot spots in the Middle East and the fight against terrorism.

A thaw in US-Egyptian relations started to be seen in recent weeks, months after these relations were strained following the Egyptian's army's removal from power of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July of 2013.

Soon after Morsi's ouster, the US administration said it would withhold part of US military aid to the Arab country.

However, a few days ago, the US said it would deliver Apache helicopters needed by Cairo in its ongoing fight against militancy in the Sinai Peninsula, northeastern Egypt.
