Planning Minister, U.S. lawmakers discuss aid to Jordan


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) During a recent visit to the United States, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, discussed with Senate and House of Representatives committees economic aid to Jordan.

His meetings also touched upon the renewal of a 2015-2017 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two countries as well as a new wheat grant amounting to 100,000 metric tons.

On the sidelines of the Spring meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the minister held a series of meetings with U.S. lawmakers and representatives of the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

The minister briefed the U.S. side about the economic situation in Jordan and the impact of the Syrian crisis on the various sectors as well as the growing pressures it posed on the Kingdom.

The minister also reviewed the 2015 response plan to the Syrian crisis, while stressing on the importance of mobilizing funds that would enable the Kingdom to continue its humanitarian assistance towards Syrian refugees.
