Training, Apprentice divisions now under Ministry of Skill Development

(MENAFN- KNN India) Expecting to improve monitoring, consolidate and bring in a single umbrella of rules the government has shifted the training and apprentice divisions of the labour ministry to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship that was formed in November.

The skills ministry will not only oversee the skill development activities of all ministries and departments, but actually implement schemes. All private ITIs, government ITIs, PPP skill schools and other institutions will come under skills ministry and its budget part will be decided in the next few days by the cabinet secretariat.

The move will bring over 11,000 ITIs and scores of other institutions, and the apprentice and training divisions, under the ministry.

As the apprentice division of the DGET has also been transferred, hence the skills ministry will implement the amended Apprentices Act, which allows students to get trained in shop floors and get financial assistance. (KNN/SS)
