Australia an education business hub: Minister
(MENAFN- Arab News) Australia is the second-best country in the world in higher education in terms of quality commitment and rigor after Britain and as many as 16000 Saudis are studying there said Australian Minister of Trade and Investment Andrew Robb.
Speaking on the sidelines of the International Exhibition & Conference on Higher Education here the minister underlined the strong economic relations between his country and Saudi Arabia and called on both sides for greater cooperation in investment and other important fields.
A total of 29 Australian universities took part in the exhibition.
During his meeting with top Saudi businessmen at the Council of Saudi Chambers (CSC) Robb said Australia has a lot to offer to the Kingdom other than livestock and agricultural production. The other promising sectors that are capable of fueling improved bilateral cooperation are tourism health services and vocational training he said.
The event was attended by CSC Vice-President Saleh Afaleq Saudi Ambassador to Australia Nabil Al-Saleh and Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom Ralph King. The chairman and members of the Saudi Australian Joint Business Council were also present.
Robb invited the Saudi businessmen to his country and explore business opportunities that are available under the free trade agreement between Australia and Saudi Arabia as well as with the GCC member-states.
Afaleq dwelt on the common links between the two countries including their membership in the G-20 and excellent cooperation at the bilateral level and also through regional and international organizations.
Referring to bilateral relations he said that the number of Saudi tourists to Australia and Australian businessmen visiting Saudi Arabia is on the rise.
According to Afaleq the $2.5 billion which is currently being derived from trade and associated exchanges is much less than the full economic potential waiting to be tapped. Referring to the balance of trade in favor of Australia he urged the Joint Business Council to enrol more Saudi businessmen for council membership to ensure better representation.
