(MENAFN- Arab News) A video clip of a child being sexually harassed by a driver in Dammam and posted on social networking sites helped the police in tracing the car in which the crime happened and nabbing the culprit.
The 50-second video was taken by a woman from the window of her residence in Aljamiian neighborhood. Shocked by the incident she posted the video clip on social media with an appeal to the authorities concerned for the driver's arrest.
The child belongs to the 'special needs category' and the arrested driver an Asian expatriate must have taken advantage of this the police said.
'The suspect has been arrested and referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution. The woman also had the present of mind and recorded the car registration number which helped us in tracing the suspect' Eastern Province police spokesman Ziad Al-Ruqaiti was quoted by a local publication as saying.
The video clip went viral on social media evoking angry reactions from many and calls for the arrest of the culprit and and tough laws to deal with such crimes.
Al-Ruqaiti said that the authorities monitored the video clip to ensure whether the driver's behavior with the child was inappropriate and if he could be charged before making the arrest.
'Soon after his arrest the suspect was referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution for further action' he added.
Dr. Ahmad Sudairi a lawyer and legal counselor said that the suspect may get imprisonment up to 15 years after his conviction.
Forms of child sexual abuse include asking or pressuring a child to engage in sexual activities indecent exposure to a child or physical sexual contact with a child.
