(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has sent the first convoy of humanitarian aid trucks under Katara's relief campaign for the internally displaced people (IDPs) inside Syria, in cooperation with the partners in Jordan.
Three trucks loaded with in-kind assistance (blankets, mattresses, hygiene materials, clothes, and children's toys) moved from the warehouses of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) in Mafraq, near the Jordan-Syria borders, heading for southern Syria.
The relief campaign launched by the Cultural Village Foundation "Katara" to combat cold and hunger in Syria filled 11 containers with 1,090 mattresses, 3,370 blankets, and 97 packages of clothes, women's stuff, children's toys, and soaps. This assistance was moved to Jordan so that QRC's mission there would enter it into Syria, in cooperation with the Jordanian partner.
The donation campaign was extended for an indefinite period of time, with trucks aligned in different parts of the country, including Al Wakra, Al Khor, Al- Rayyan, Muaither, Al Kheesa, Izghawa, Al Kharaitiyat, Al Shamal, Slata, Al Muntazah, Al Dafna, Aspire Zone, Al Murrah, Khalifa City, Al Luqta, Ghaza, Fereej Bin Omran, and Fereej Kulaib.
QRC undertakes the executive part of the campaign, securing licenses and approvals, finalizing legal procedures, receiving the donations, moving them to the target regions, and distributing them to the beneficiaries in poor districts and places of the neediest IDPs.
In addition, QRC contributed 2,000 blankets and 11,500 hand wash bottles to protect Syrian families against cold and diseases.
As more in-kind donations are collected, QRC will send more convoys to help the displaced Syrians inside their country as well as the Syrian refugees in neighboring countries.
Ever since the beginning of the Syrian conflict, QRC has implemented dozens of relief and medical projects in favor of Syrian brothers in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraqi Kurdistan, and even inside Syria, utilising its legal capacity as a globally recognized humanitarian organization whose vehicles, facilities, and staff are protected under international laws and conventions, a role that distinguishes it from other Qatari charitable organizations, as well as its long experience in humanitarian action and good coordination with the humanitarian players in target regions for concerted and integrated efforts.
