Qatar Charity holds activities for Palestinian orphans

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Charity (QC) has held two activities for orphans in Jerusalem and Nablus to mark World Orphans Day.

The activities comprised a competition to memorise the Qur'an and a medical examination for around 35 orphans.

The first activity was held in the courtyard of Al Aqsa mosque in co-operation with local volunteer associations, including the association for the development of orphans in Jerusalem and Zahrat Al Madain Association.

The Qur'an memorisation competition targeted QC-sponsored orphans. The judges were chosen by the Awqaf and Religious Affairs Department and the participating orphans were presented with motivational awards, in addition to lunch.

The medical examination activity was held in collaboration with organisations such as the Solidarity Association in the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank, the Palestinian Dentists' Syndicate and a team of volunteers, and involved QC orphans living in foster care in Nablus.

The examination was followed by recreational activities, held in the Nablus Municipality Recreational Park and Hamdi Menko Centre, including clowns, face-painting and murals, and the children were presented with special awards and gifts, in addition to lunch.

Orphans participating in both events thanked QC for holding such activities.

QC is keen to provide entertainment and support for sponsored orphans in order to contribute to their quality of life and avoid feelings of inferiority, which in turn helps contribute to the development of poor communities, raising the performance level of orphans before they enter adulthood.

QC currently sponsors 70,661 orphans, including 9,086 in Palestine.

In addition, the organisation sponsors students, poor families and people with disabilities in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

QC recently launched its Build Palestine campaign in order to help the Palestinian people develop within and outside Palestine under the slogan "Hand in hand to build Palestine". The campaign covers the financing and implementation of large development projects valued at QR197,628mn and is expected to benefit around 1,147,000 people.

The projects cover the areas of shelter, education, health and other economic empowerment for Palestinians in Jerusalem and its environs, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, in addition to Palestinian refugees who are in refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan.
