(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Some 290 US troops were in Ukraine to train the country's National Guard next week, the State Department confirmed on Friday.
"This is a joint Department of Defense-Department of State initiative to strengthen Ukraine's internal defense capabilities," Acting Spokesperson Marie Harf told reporters.
"We've been doing this with Ukraine, about the last 20 years in some form or fashion," she added.
"Approximately 290 US troops will conduct the national guard training mission at the International Peacekeeping Security Center in western Ukraine. I think the UK and Canada have also publicly announced similar training for Ukraine," she said.
