Sheikha Latifa touts Kuwait's membership in UN commission on women

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The selection of Kuwait to be a member of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a remarkable achievement for Kuwaiti women and a feather in the cap of Kuwait, said Chairperson of the Women's Affairs Committee (WAC) at the Kuwaiti Cabinet Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah on Saturday.

This selection will add to the responsibilities of Kuwaiti women in striving to champion women's causes everywhere, she said in a press statement, adding that Kuwaiti women have been able to achieve numerous objectives locally, regionally, and internationally.

She said that the WAC, despite its short history, has organized numerous forums and conferences on issues close to the hearts of women such as violence against women and children's rights. Moreover WAC was forthcoming in presenting solutions to these issues.

Last April 8, the UN Economic and Social Council known as ECOSOC had announced the selection of Kuwait as an active member of CSW for a period of four years. Kuwait's permanent representative to the UN, ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi, had noted that the selection was a further affirmation of Kuwait's earnestness in participating in world forums and organizations with the view to present viable ideas and solutions for the benefit of all.
