(MENAFN- Arab News) Prominent members of the Pakistani community in the Kingdom including a former member of the National Assembly said here Thursday that the Pakistan National Assembly's decision to stay neutral on the Yemen issue does not reflect the general opinion of the Pakistani people.
Reacting to the decision Chaudhary Nazeer Ahmad Jatt the former MNA told Arab News that "there is strong resentment from people in Pakistan because of this and the public opinion is in favor of standing firm with the Kingdom."
"The Saudi-Pakistan relationship is a special bond that has stood the test of time. The Pakistani people are committed to protecting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and of the holy places of Islam" he added.
Riyadh-based prominent Pakistani businessman Chaudhary Faryad Ahmad echoed this sentiment maintaining that the Pakistani community living in the Kingdom is disappointed with the National Assembly's recent decision which was rashly taken under strong pressure from opposition parties. He reiterated as others did that the decision to stay neutral does not reflect the general sentiment of the Pakistani people.
Javed Akhter Javed a community leader and writer also raised concern over the decision and expressed his hope that the Pakistani government will move to stand with the Kingdom more firmly.
Meanwhile the Pakistan government welcomed the UN Security Council resolution on Yemen which will see an arms embargo on the Houthi militia.
